Welcome. Your bed works a little differently than a conventional mattress and box spring. Follow the steps below to set it up correctly and keep it in good condition.
Watch the setup video first
The fastest way to assemble the bed is to follow this short video:
The bed arrives in individual pieces so it is easy to carry through doorways and around corners. No tools are required.
How to put the sheet on
The fitted sheet goes over the sleeping system, not just the mattress.
Pull the sheet over everything except the wooden frame:
- sheep wool topper
- latex mattress
- slat system
- latex supports
A regular 8-inch fitted sheet works well.
Do not tuck the sheet under the wooden frame.
What to expect the first nights
It is normal to need time to adjust.
Depending on your age and spinal health, this can take 1 to 10 nights. During that time you may feel some discomfort. The slats begin supporting the parts of your back that have not been held in a healthy position. Many people describe it as similar to spending the night at the chiropractor.
This is the system doing its job. It usually settles as your body adapts.
The slats will move a little — that is supposed to happen
The slats shift slightly in and out while you sleep. They have to. If they were locked in place, they would not follow your body.
It is completely normal to get up in the morning and notice that some slats sit a little farther in or out than others. They will not slide far enough to fall off the latex supports.
You do not need to push them back into a perfect line every morning.
How to care for your bed
Let the wool breathe
The sheep wool topper cleans itself during the day if it can air out. Let the bed air at least a few times a week.
If you do not like making the bed, that works in your favour. If you use a comforter, take it off for the full day a couple of times a week. You do not need to remove the fitted sheet.
What you can wash
The mattress cover is prewashed cotton. You may wash and dry it as often as you like.
What you must not wash
Do not put the sheep wool topper in the washing machine or dryer.
Machine washing or drying will shrink the wool and destroy its self-cleaning properties.
How to clean the wool topper
Most people only need to clean the topper once or twice a year. Use one of these methods:
- Hang it outside in the rain until it is fully soaked, then let it dry. Sleeping without the topper for a night or two is fine.
- Soak it in the bathtub in cool water only (no detergent) and hang it to dry.
- Avoid cleaning products on the wool. For a bad spill such as coffee, you may use a very small amount of soft castile soap at most.
